2026 Family Business Awards Finalists Revealed Following Strong Response to Entries

The Yorkshire, Humberside and North East Family Business Awards have announced their 2026 finalists following an impressive response to this year’s awards, with the expansion into the North East bringing even more family businesses into the spotlight.

The Yorkshire, Humberside and North East Family Business Awards (YHNEFBA) are celebrating another exciting milestone as the finalists for 2026 are officially revealed.

With applications increasing across all categories following the expansion of the awards into the North East, this year’s entries have highlighted the remarkable diversity, ambition and achievements of family businesses throughout the wider region.

Organised by The Family Business Community, the awards continue to grow as a platform for recognising the people, passion and commitment behind family-owned enterprises.

A Growing Celebration Across Three Regions

Opening for applications in April, the 2026 awards welcomed entries from family businesses across Yorkshire, Humberside and, for the first time, the North East.

The expansion has brought new businesses and fresh stories into the awards, creating a wider and more diverse field of applicants and strengthening the connections between family business communities across the regions.

The increase in applications across all categories reflects the growing reach of the awards and the enthusiasm of family businesses to share their achievements.

From Established Businesses to Emerging Talent

The 2026 finalists represent a broad cross-section of the family business community, demonstrating just how varied and important family enterprises are to the regional economy.

From agricultural businesses, manufacturers and construction companies to independent retailers, hospitality venues, tourism attractions and professional service providers, the shortlist showcases businesses operating across a wide range of sectors.

Among those recognised are businesses such as Knitsley Farm Shop and Farmer Copleys in the agricultural sector, Zebra Print Group and Benson Panels in manufacturing, and Bridlington Animal Park and Stump Cross Caverns in leisure and tourism.

The shortlist also celebrates emerging family businesses, alongside those making a difference through environmental initiatives, social impact and their commitment to employees and the next generation.

Individual categories recognising outstanding leadership, employee excellence and next-generation contributions further highlight the people whose dedication helps family businesses thrive.

Together, the finalists demonstrate that family business success takes many forms, with each enterprise bringing its own story, values and ambitions to the awards.

Recognising the Stories Behind the Success

Sue Howorth, Co-Founder of The Family Business Community

“We’ve been absolutely delighted by the response to this year’s awards. Expanding into the North East has given us the opportunity to discover and celebrate even more fantastic family businesses, and the quality and variety of applications has been wonderful to see.

“What makes these awards so special is getting to know the people behind the businesses. Every family business has its own story, and it’s those stories of determination, hard work, innovation and family commitment that we really want to celebrate.

“We’re incredibly proud of all our finalists and can’t wait to learn more about them as the judging process gets underway.”

Judges Prepare to Meet the Finalists

With the finalists now announced, attention turns to one of the most distinctive elements of the awards: the judging visits.

Rather than relying solely on written applications, the judging process gives judges the opportunity to meet finalists in person, discover more about their businesses and hear the stories behind their achievements.

These visits offer a valuable insight into the people, values and ambitions that drive each family business, bringing their applications to life and helping the judging panel gain a deeper understanding of what makes each finalist special.

For the businesses involved, it is also an opportunity to reflect on their journey, celebrate their teams and share the achievements that have brought them this far.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Awards Ceremony

The excitement will continue to build as finalists prepare for the Yorkshire, Humberside and North East Family Business Awards ceremony on Friday 13 November 2026 at The Majestic Hotel in Harrogate.

The event promises another memorable celebration of family business achievement, bringing together finalists, their families, employees and supporters from across the three regions.

Congratulations to every business and individual who has reached the finalist stage. Being shortlisted is an achievement worth celebrating and a reflection of the passion and dedication that make the family business community so special.
